Sweet yeast cake (recipe for polish drożdżòwka)

DSC_1007

This cake is one of the polish basic cakes, perfect on its own, gorgeous with seasonal fruits. For me the best bit is the crumble on top. I have to admit that I have never made this cake on my own. Usually when my mum bakes it, it’s always deliiiciuus. So nice that on my last holiday I got a massive piece to take back to England- of course it disappeared within 2 days (I love to have it for breakfast; in my opinion pudding is usually a great idea to start your day right). But back to my yeast cake, I have never made it on my own because it requires a lot of energy and strength. Of course it is manageable, you just need some guy to help. If you decide to do everything yourself it will be a good test for your arm muscles. Both ways- lots of fun 😊

No need for knead bread

DSC_0745

I like my live in England. I really love that on each step I am spoiled for choice especially food choice. But with all that variety sometimes I miss polish flavours, mostly crusty bread. That’s why when last time my boyfriend decided to bake some bread for us I got so excited. You could smell that amazing smell in whole house. And when we took it from oven I couldn’t stop myself and eat it still hot. We had it just with salted butter which melted so nicely on top of bread. It was so delicious that we end up eating whole loaf in one evening 😀 So it didn’t gave me any choice than to bake another one the next day. The recipe its a nice, simple base which you can moderate. In future I’m thinking to change flour to wholegrain and maybe add some seeds- to make it more nutrishious.
